In training it is of vital importance that you get your dog’s eyes on you. Without this their attention may wander elsewhere and interest in you may be lost! Without eye contact you will not have the focus from your dog that you need to teach it how you want to act.
For the best results in training you need to manage these three vital components…
1. Energy – ensure you are not dealing with a coiled spring! Before you unleash controlled play (training) have some uncontrolled play (energy burn off)
2. Distractions – training in a distraction free environment allows your message to be delivered unfiltered.
3. Focus – If your dog is not looking at you it will not learn from you
And remember, when the fun stops, stop!
